Stefania is a 4 year old female Cross-Breed. She is fostered in Kings Lynn Norfolk. Stefania has also passed her cat testing.
Stefania was living in a pack, on the street, in a village in Romania. A guy was feeding them but this is all that he did.
Females were giving birth in the ditch, in front of his house. Stefania had 8 pups, all died of parvo or run over, apart from 1 boy.
The guy buried her pups when they died but she kept digging them out and taking them in the bushes where she was sleeping with her boy. Eventually, she was caught and put in private foster until she could come to us.
Stefania is a shy submissive girl but has a curious personality. She is still a little hand shy but once she knows you she will allow you to fuss with her and she will relax. Stephania loves her food so can be easily won over with tasty treats.
Stefania is very comfortable in her foster home and loves a cosy bed to snooze in. She likes to be involved with the going on with her foster family and likes to be with everyone. She is very calm, quiet and respectful. She has even started to play.
Outside on walks Stefania has only just learnt to walk on the lead which she has picked up very quickly, however, she can still be a little nervous about new places and noise. She will need an adopter with some experience who is willing to continue to work with her and help her gain confidence with this.
Stefania is starting to like her walks and is enjoying sniffing all the new smells! Stefania will need a confident doggie companion in her new home.
Please do not apply if you are unable to offer this.
Stefania can be left at home for reasonable periods with no issues and could live with respectful children age 12+.
When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog.
If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period.
Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and in situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a backup safety measure.
The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm.
Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer.
Retractable/extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a crate.
