BA Block in New Town, the recovery news of a Golden Retriever has led residents to adopt it. The pup was found in the streets around 8 pm on Sunday without a guardian and was taken to the New Town police station.
As there is no claimant, one of the officers of the police station has taken the puppy to his home, according to police sources.
Meanwhile, a social media post exploring its owner acquired traction in New Town social media groups. “I have received 42 calls and messages of people who had seen the post with offers to adopt it,” Samaresh Das stated, chairman of New Town Forum and News, a trust operating for social causes in New Town. “But the police will only give it to the legitimate owner if he turns up.”
The police station is served to keep the pup if the officers choose, as it has a kennel reaching on its premises. The kennel was inaugurated by police commissioner Gaurav Sharma on January 20.
“We have a German Shepherd and a Labrador assigned to our commissionerate’s dog squad which stay in Barrackpore. It is not practical to bring them over from such a distance whenever they are needed for investigative purposes. So we are building a kennel in New Town itself,” a senior officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate. stated
The kennel is believed to house a maximum of five dogs. “It is being slightly rebuilt to correct some structural issues. It should be ready to house the canine inmates within two weeks,” the officer stated.
As per the sources, Golden Retrievers are an excellent breed as police dogs as they have a great sense of taking orders with a calm temper. The puppy is almost three months old and also suited to be groomed for the role.
Questioned if the puppy will also be trained for the squad if there are no claimants, it was early to comment, the officer said.
