Fergal is a 5 year old male Labrador Cross. Happy chappy Fergal passed his second assessment in foster and was ready for his forever home. Unfortunately that home didn’t work out as the adopter sustained an injury, which meant that Fergal can’t stay as he is strong on the lead and the adopter is no longer able to walk him and meet his needs. He is extremely loving and loves nothing more than belly rubs and cuddles on the sofa.
When in foster he loved walks on the common and playing with his foster sister Matty, who also allowed him to share her squeaky toys. He is good overnight and can be left for a period of time throughout the day. Fergal is housetrained.
Fergal is a sensitive boy and his foster home spent a lot of time training him and working with a behaviourist. He can be nervous when he first meets other dogs but this has got better over time.
Fergal will make a really wonderful addition to any family. He is very good around children but as he hasn’t lived with them, regrettably we cannot rehome to a family with young children. He can still be nervous when meeting new people so a high activity household with lots of people in and out wouldn’t be suitable.
He can air-snap when nervous but is easily distracted with a toy. He does have a high prey drive and isn’t keen on cats, but adored his foster sister, so a resident dog would be ideal. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Fergal will need to continue the training that his foster family had put in place, to ensure he feels safe and secure.
Fergal does have Leishmaniasis and is currently on an inexpensive daily medicine. He has been treated for the condition but will need monitoring – we can advise on this so please do just ask.
