Rex is a 7 month old male Hound cross Shepherd. He was found running scared through the streets of Cyprus as a stray when he was four months old. He arrived into the shelter at the height of puppy season, and was promptly overlooked in favour of the smaller, fluffier puppies. Local adoptions of bigger breed types are rare, and poor Rex had no chance. We’re hoping we can therefore find his forever home in the UK.
Rex is most probably a mix of Hound and Shepherd. He is a beautiful dog and extremely intelligent. He is energetic, sociable with other dogs, very playful, and keen to learn new things. He gets bored easily in the shelter due to lack of stimulation, so he’s looking for a family that have an active lifestyle and are keen to have a dog join them on their adventures. Rex would respond really well to training as he’s so switched on, so his new home should be prepared to give him lots of mental enrichment as well as physical.
Rex is in his teenage stage at the moment so he is naturally more bouncy, excitable and boisterous in his play. He responds well to direction, but in a shelter environment where there are lots of other dogs it’s impossible to give him the 1-2-1 training he needs. He is also often vying for attention and when there are dozens of other dogs surrounding them, the dogs recognise that they’re more likely to get attention if they’re bouncier, as it gets them noticed.
We genuinely feel that in a proper home environment with some routine and boundaries Rex will thrive, but it won’t be without the hard work that every pup truly requires. He has a very loyal and devoted nature, so he will give a lot back to his new family. Rex’s ideal home would be based outside of the busy city, with access to a secure, private garden to play in.
He is currently living with lots of other dogs and we feel confident that he would enjoy having a playmate, but it should be a dog of a similar energy to him. He would pester an older, more docile dog, and this wouldn’t be the ideal dynamic. Rex hasn’t been cat tested, but he is friendly with children.
Due to his expected adult size and energy levels we’re looking for a home with children aged 9+ who are confident around dogs. Rex is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel in November.
