Greta is a 1 year old female Spanish Hound. She is a gorgeous slightly-wire-haired Hound. She is currently near Harrogate, Yorkshire. Greta adores people, she is very sweet, she comes and asks for an ear or belly rub and she is very gentle. She can be nervous about new people but as soon as she trusts them she is affectionate and quickly forms a strong bond.
Greta loves other dogs and plays like mad. She can be quite relentless in her play, so she needs other dogs she lives with to be equally playful and tolerant of her.
Greta particularly likes tug of war and chase. She plays really well, although boisterously with other dogs, she plays equally, she gives and takes notice of play queues from other dogs. She follows the other dogs around permanently, so she would really love another dog in the house. She LOVES a squeaky toys, but due to her young age still likes to shred toys after a while. She also likes to chew bone-type toys, and she loves to gnaw. Antlers, horns, and coffee wood dog sticks seem to be favorites. She is a high-energy dog and really loves her walks and runs.
Currently, most of her walks are on the lead as she has a high prey drive and has a particular interest in squirrels, cats, rabbits, and birds, as you would expect with her breed. However she has a weekly walk in a secure field that she really adores, she runs around like a crazy thing and does lots of sniffing, and then relaxes the rest of the day.
Greta can be very playful at home, especially if she has not been for a good off-lead run, in fact, her current home calls this her manic time. She will try to play with the other dogs and the humans, and if no one will play she often steals something to chew on. She is a clever girl and has learned how to open draws and get up onto worktops so she can get up to mischief.
Greta is active and intelligent and she loves something to do, if there is nothing to do she will find her own entertainment. She has also started to mouth more in an attempt to get people to play, so she would not be suitable for a home with young children.
Greta loves her bed (or sofa) and sleeps downstairs through the night with the other dogs. She also loves to snooze, particularly if she is cuddled up against one of her humans. Greta is toilet trained (although she hates going out in the rain) and is starting to walk well on the lead and long line, although if she spots something interesting she can pull really hard.
Recall on the long line is improving, but not reliable yet. Greta travels very well in the boot of the car and usually lies down. Greta will bark at people passing the house so she would probably prefer a quiet home location. Greta goes out for a run regularly in her current home, she does not yet pull much but we think she could be a great Canicross companion with some time and training. Originally Greta was found on the streets and rescued by a young couple who brought her to the shelter we work with in the North of Spain.
Greta arrived in the UK in February, and she has been through foster and adoption homes, but sadly through no fault of her own, she is available for adoption again due to her adopter’s ill health. Her first home said “Greta is very sweet and loving, great around other dogs. She loves snuggling up to humans and sleeps in the funniest positions! She has a cheeky and inquisitive nature and is a very gentle girl. She is a bundle of bouncy energy and fun.”
We are looking for an active rural home with lots of human company and with another friendly dog. Greta is very interested in cats, so it has to be a cat-free home. Greta was born on 8th December 2020 so she is nearly two years old.
If you are interested in giving pretty Greta a home, she is available at Setter Brittany Pointer Rescue.
Greta is currently near Harrogate, Yorkshire but her bag is packed and she is ready to travel to her forever home anywhere in the UK. Will that be with you??
